CLF Makes Holiday Donation to the Ronald McDonald House of Pittsburgh

When a child is sick, she needs her parents more than ever. Studies have shown that maternal deprivation and separation anxiety are both detrimental to a child’s recovery in a hospital. Yet parents can find it difficult to find lodging near their children, which can make it difficult for them to be nearby as much as they’d like.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Pittsburgh helps provide opportunities for families to be by their child’s bedside as they face life-saving medical situations. “We know that keeping families with sick children together is better for everyone,” they state on their website. The facility opened its doors in 1979, when it offered ten sleeping rooms as well as a shared television room, library, playroom, kitchen, laundry room, and outdoor patio. Twelve years later, they opened a second house next door, and in 2009, they moved to a new site next to the Children’s Hospital in Lawrenceville—a place that was nearly triple in size.

RMHC PittsburghNow, each family that stays in the Ronald McDonald House has their own suite with a kitchen, living room, bedroom, and bathroom, as well as common areas that include a community room, computer area, playroom, kitchen, dining room and laundry area. The house connects via the third floor to the Children’s Hospital, allowing families to be close to their children at all times. This house in Pittsburgh is the first to be connected directly to a hospital.

“The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Pittsburgh provides a place for families to call home, so they can stay close to their hospitalized children at no cost,” said Chaffin Luhana Partner Patrick Booth. “They provide housing, home-cooked meals, private bedrooms, playrooms for children, special suites for children with suppressed immune systems, recreational activities, and more.”

At Booth’s request, the Chaffin Luhana Foundation is donating $250 to the Ronald McDonald house to support their work for families. If you’d also like to help the organization in their mission to keep families close to their children, you can make a donation via the information listed below:
